Guwahati, July 16 – Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi held a crucial meeting with the party’s state unit functionaries in Guwahati today. The meeting aimed to strengthen the party’s organisation and prepare a roadmap for the future.

According to Congress state unit president Gaurav Gogoi, the meeting discussed ways to bolster the party’s organisational structure. Gogoi shared photographs of the closed-door meeting on social media, saying, “Honoured to welcome Congress President Shri @kharge ji and Leader of the Opposition Shri @RahulGandhi ji to Guwahati today for a crucial meeting with the Assam Congress leadership.”
The meeting was attended by members of the Political Affairs Committee, PCC office bearers, MPs, MLAs, Frontal Heads, and DCC Presidents. Kharge and Gandhi also met with members of tribal communities and individuals facing persecution, displacement threats, and harassment at a hotel near the airport.
This visit marks the first time the party’s top leaders have visited Assam since Gogoi took over as state president, ahead of next year’s assembly election. Kharge and Gandhi are set to leave Guwahati in the evening after completing their meetings.
