Agartala, July 19, 2025: Tripura is set to commence academic sessions in six newly constructed Ekalavya Model Residential Schools from August. This announcement was made by Tripura’s Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma following a special inspection of school infrastructure in the Ultachhara area of Gandacherra under Dhalai district on Saturday.
During the visit, Minister Debbarma was accompanied by MDC Bidyut Chakma, MLA Nandita Debbarma Reang, and senior officials from the Tribal Welfare Department.
Speaking to the media personnel, the Minister said, “Ekalavya schools will not only provide textbook-based education but will also play a significant role in shaping the mindset, thinking, and sense of responsibility among tribal students.”
He highlighted that these residential schools aim to go beyond conventional learning methods. “Along with modern education, emphasis is being laid on leadership qualities, sports, cultural activities, and technology-based training. The goal is to produce confident, humane, and socially conscious citizens,” Debbarma added.
The Ekalavya Model Residential Schools are specifically designed to serve students from tribal communities and aim to strengthen their connection with their roots. “We want to create a generation who are not just job seekers but leaders of society. They must respect their culture, history, and identity—and be proud of it,” said the Minister.
In a state where a significant portion of the population belongs to tribal communities, these schools represent a critical investment in the future. According to officials, the institutions are already emerging as a source of empowerment for tribal children and adolescents, helping instill a strong sense of self-worth through quality education.
The Minister noted that the state government is committed to ensuring that the infrastructure and faculty of these schools meet high standards to fulfil the vision of building responsible future citizens.
Classes are expected to begin simultaneously across all six schools in August, marking a significant milestone in Tripura’s educational outreach to its tribal population.
