Sikkim Showcases Investment Potential To Eastern India At Kolkata Meet

The Commerce & Industries Department of the Government of Sikkim, in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), organised the Sikkim Reverse Buyer Seller Meet in Kolkata on Wednesday. The event aimed to attract investments and strengthen economic ties with West Bengal and other eastern Indian states.

The meet featured a focused business conference, an exhibition of Sikkim’s high-value products, and a series of one-on-one B2B and B2G meetings. These sessions offered a platform for direct interaction between investors, industry leaders, and Sikkim-based enterprises.

Sikkim’s Minister for Commerce & Industries and Tourism & Civil Aviation, Tshering Thendup Bhutia, inaugurated the event. He emphasised the importance of regional collaboration and the complementary strengths of West Bengal and Sikkim in driving economic development.

Principal Director of Commerce & Industries, M Ravi Kumar, outlined various investment incentives offered by the state, including subsidies and support for sectors such as tourism, agri-horti food processing, pharmaceuticals, IT & ITeS, micro-hydro power, arts and crafts, film, music, and sports. Director T T Bhutia highlighted efforts to develop sustainable market linkages, particularly for agro-based and cottage industry products like spices, processed foods, handlooms, dairy, and traditional snacks.

Debashis Dutta, Chairman of CII West Bengal State Council, acknowledged Sikkim’s strategic location and potential as a trade and industry hub, calling for inclusive growth that benefits small farmers, women entrepreneurs, youth, and border communities.

Soni Virdi, Chairman of CII Sikkim State Council, underlined the state’s potential in education, herbal medicine, organic agriculture, and bamboo-based industries.

The exhibition drew significant attention from investors and trade visitors, showcasing Sikkim’s diverse and authentic products. The event affirmed Sikkim’s image as an investment-ready state committed to sustainable, organic, and inclusive development. Focused meetings held alongside the event explored partnerships, sourcing opportunities, and strategies for market expansion.
