Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), who also serves as the President of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Mizoram State Branch, inaugurated the Red Cross Society activities at Government Aizawl North College (GANC), Ramhlun North, on Thursday.
As part of the programme, the Governor presented the Institutional Membership Certificate, an oxygen concentrator, and blankets to the college principal. He also handed over Life Membership Certificates to three individuals.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor praised the Mizo community’s values of unity, kindness, and volunteerism, noting their alignment with the Red Cross mission. He highlighted the importance of having a structured humanitarian organisation like the Red Cross, even in close-knit societies.
He urged the youth to actively participate in Red Cross activities, learn life-saving skills such as first aid, and take leadership in community service. Emphasizing the role of co-curricular activities, he encouraged the formation of Youth Red Cross Units across educational institutions in the state, envisioning Mizoram as a model for Red Cross initiatives.
The event featured a welcome address by Dr. Chawnglungmuana, Secretary of IRCS Mizoram State Branch, and a report on Red Cross activities by Assistant Secretary Chinkhanmanga Thomte. Principal Dr. Saroj Laldinpuii and Treasurer Francis Lallawmkima also addressed the gathering.
A Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid Training session was conducted following the inauguration, equipping members of the college’s Youth Red Cross Unit with essential emergency response skills.
