The Judicial Magistrate of Wokha district, Julian Silthou, has convicted four individuals for the brutal killing of a Great Indian Hornbill, an endangered species, in Bhandari Town, Wokha, in June 2022.

The case drew widespread public outrage after a video of the bird being tortured and killed circulated on social media. The incident prompted swift action from forest authorities.

The case was filed by Wildlife Warden H. Tokaho Kinimi and prosecuted by Assistant Public Prosecutor K. Renpemo Tungoe under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
