Agartala, July 26, 2025: Police recovered 20 kg of dried marijuana from a passenger bus during a routine check near the Mohanpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer’s Office in Lembucherra under Lefunga Police Station. Two women were arrested in connection with the seizure, with the contraband’s market value estimated to exceed ₹1 lakh.

According to officials, the bus bearing registration number TR01C1306 was travelling from Simna to Agartala when it was stopped for inspection. Lefunga Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sahadeb Das confirmed that the narcotics were recovered during the search and that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.

Initial investigations suggest the women hail from Assam. However, the Aadhaar cards in their possession are suspected to be forged, raising further questions about their identities. The duo reportedly arrived in Tripura by train yesterday and had travelled to Mohanpur earlier this morning.

Police sources indicate that the arrests were made while they were allegedly attempting to purchase marijuana from a youth in Shantila area under Sidhai Police Station.

The case is under active investigation, with police verifying the women’s claims and probing possible links to broader narcotics distribution networks.
