Agartala, July 26, 2025: In a continued effort to empower the farming community, the BJP-led government in Tripura has launched a fresh paddy procurement drive under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme for the KMS 2025-26 (Rabi 2024-25) season.

The initiative, a joint effort by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs and the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare was officially flagged off by Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Saturday at Battala Bazaar under Satchand Panchayat in the Sabroom subdivision of South Tripura.

“This program is a reaffirmation of our government’s commitment to improving the socio-economic condition of farmers. Their welfare is central to every decision we take,” Minister Chowdhury said during the inauguration ceremony.

Highlighting the significance of the location, the minister noted that the procurement began from Brajendranagar often referred to as the grain hub of Sabroom which was heavily affected by last year’s floods. “We deliberately chose this region to begin procurement so that affected farmers receive timely support,” he added.

As part of the plan, the state government aims to procure 9,000 metric tons of paddy this season under MSP. Chowdhury said the move is expected to provide financial security to farmers while contributing to the long-term resilience of the state’s agriculture sector.

“I strongly believe this initiative will not only enhance rural livelihoods but also act as a catalyst for strengthening the rural economy,” he stated.

The launching event was also attended by Minister Sukla Charan Noatia, Dakshin Tripura Zilla Sabhadhipati Dipak Datta, MLAs Mailaíru Mog and Sapna Majumder and former MLA Sankar Roy, among others.
