Agartala, July 30, 2024: In a decisive move to strengthen the state’s internal security framework, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday approved the formation of a Special Task Force (STF) under the Tripura Police.

According to official sources, the newly constituted STF will be tasked with combating a wide range of threats, including organized crime, extremism, cross-border smuggling, drug trafficking, and other unlawful activities that undermine law and order.

Designed as an intelligence-driven unit, the STF will operate with a swift-response strategy to counter emerging security challenges across the state. Its core mandate includes investigating acts of terrorism, expediting prosecution in related cases, and dismantling criminal syndicates operating within and beyond Tripura’s borders.

“This dedicated force will act as a powerful arm of the law to preserve peace, deter unlawful activities, and ensure the safety of every citizen,” Chief Minister Saha stated, reiterating his government’s firm commitment to maintaining public order.

Officials further confirmed that the STF will coordinate closely with national intelligence and enforcement agencies to identify, monitor, and neutralize threats before they escalate.

The creation of this elite unit is seen as a strategic step toward reinforcing public trust in the state’s security mechanisms. Senior Home Department officials believe it will significantly enhance Tripura’s capacity to handle complex law enforcement challenges and provide a secure environment conducive to development and welfare.

With this initiative, Tripura joins the ranks of other Indian states with specialized task forces aimed at tackling high-stakes threats in a focused and coordinated manner.
