Agartala, July 31, 2025: In a devastating late Wednesday night accident, four people lost their lives and two others were injured when a speeding white Innova (TR-02-M-0599) crashed into a stationary police vehicle in Chirakuti area of Tripura’s Unakoti district around midnight on Wednesday.

According to police sources and eyewitness accounts, the police vehicle had been pulled over on the roadside for emergency repairs after one of its wheels came off. TSR jawan Milan Debbarma of Khowai district and driver Syed Ali, along with TSR jawan Motilal Sangma (Kulai), were attempting to change the tyre when the Innova, reportedly speeding from the direction of Kumarghat, lost control and rammed into them.

“The Innova first hit TSR jawan Milan Debbarma directly and then slammed into the police vehicle with tremendous force. The impact was so severe that the police van twisted badly, and the Innova was flung into a roadside drain,” said an eyewitness present at the scene.

TSR jawan Milan Debbarma died on the spot. The injured TSR personnel Motilal Sangma and driver Syed Ali—were rushed to the Unakoti District Hospital. While Syed Ali was discharged after receiving first aid, Motilal Sangma, who sustained critical injuries, was later referred to GB Pant Hospital in Agartala.

The three occupants of the Innova- Sajjad Ali (driver and owner), Akhtar Ali and Banbir Shabdkar were pulled out of the wreckage by locals and emergency responders but succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

The accident triggered shock and sorrow across the region. Family members of the deceased TSR jawan Milan Debbarma, who arrived from Khowai district, broke down in tears at the hospital, leaving bystanders emotionally shaken.

Unkoti Superintendent of Police Sudhambika R visited the accident site early Thursday morning along with senior police and TSR officials. Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to manage the situation.

Speaking to reporters, SP Sudhambika said, “This is a deeply tragic incident. We have launched a detailed investigation, and a forensic team may also be called in to examine the vehicles and the scene thoroughly.”

The tragic event has sparked public outcry and speculation. “Why was the Innova being driven so fast at that hour?” questioned one local resident. “Was it involved in any illegal activity? Authorities must investigate every angle.”

A somber atmosphere now hangs over Bhagwannagar, Chirakuti, and nearby Kailashahar, with locals and relatives mourning the sudden loss of lives. Residents are demanding stricter night-time speed regulation and enhanced road safety measures.
