Agartala, July 31, 2025: In a major breakthrough, the North Tripura District Police have arrested eight notorious robbers involved in a recent armed robbery at Ichai Lalchhara village under Kadamtala Police Station. The operation also led to the recovery of country-made firearms, live cartridges, sharp weapons, looted gold and silver ornaments, mobile phones, and other stolen goods.
Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai (IPS) said, “On the night of July 26, a masked gang of four to five robbers broke into the residence of Subrata Kumar S in Ward No. 5 of Ichai Lalchhara. They tied up the family members and assaulted them using firearms and sharp weapons before fleeing with cash, gold ornaments, and two mobile phones.”
A case (No. 41/25) was registered under IPC Sections 331(4) and 309(4), and a Special Investigation Team led by Additional SP Kamal Debbarma was formed. Initial arrests included Kompu Shukla Das (28) of Dakshin Hurua and Jamir Ali (47) of Dakshin Kadamtala. During interrogation, they revealed the involvement of Selim Uddin (35) of Khadimpara, Churaibari. A raid at Selim’s residence uncovered ₹12,100 in cash, sharp weapons, three mobile phones, a music system, and a BSF uniform.
“The accused used to impersonate BSF personnel to gain access to villages and deceive residents before robbing them,” SP Rai revealed.
Acting on further intelligence, a police team launched a late-night operation on July 31 in Ichai Sonapur Baruakandi, leading to the arrest of five more robbers: Panki Mia (Ichai Sonapur), Abdul Qays (40, Uttar Hurua Kalachhara), Rasan Ali alias Rachai (34, South Kadamtala), Enam Uddin (24, Ichai Sonapur), and Rahim Ali (23, Phulbari, Churaibari).
Recovered items include five Android phones, two keypad phones, gold and silver ornaments, country-made firearms, nine live cartridges, and several sharp weapons.
The police plan to take the arrested individuals into custody for further interrogation. SP Rai confirmed, “Efforts are ongoing to identify other members of the gang. The victim has already identified some of the recovered items.”
