Guwahati, Aug 2: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has alleged that the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) was constructed on forest land, casting doubts over its legal standing. Speaking at a press conference in Guwahati on Friday, Sarma said the matter has already been placed before the Supreme Court.
“The university is on forest land, and whether USTM will be there after two years, no one can guarantee,” Sarma stated.
The Chief Minister also referred to USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque, who was arrested earlier this year for allegedly assuring students that they could use unfair means during examinations. Hoque was later granted bail.
