Gangtok, Aug 4: The National Highway 10 has been closed for vehicular movement between Coronation Bridge and Chitrey for a period of three days, effective from 8 pm on Sunday. The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) issued a notification announcing the temporary closure as a precautionary measure following recent landslides triggered by heavy rains along the 30-kilometre stretch.
The NHIDCL has directed the district administrations of both West Bengal and Sikkim to closely monitor and restrict vehicular movement on the affected route. The closure is scheduled to remain in effect until 6 pm on Wednesday.
In light of the closure, vehicles travelling between Gangtok and Siliguri are being diverted through alternative routes via Lava and Gorubathan. According to an Akashvani Correspondent, several landslide incidents have recently occurred along NH 10, prompting the decision to ensure public safety.
