Arunachal Pradesh: DLSA Tawang Holds Free Legal Awareness Programme At Damteng Village Near China Border

Itanagar, August 4: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Tawang, successfully conducted a one-day Free Legal Awareness Programme on 2nd August 2025 at Damteng Village (Holy Waterfall) a remote area near the Indo Tibet Border in Tawang district. The programme aimed to empower citizens with essential legal knowledge and to promote access to justice in far-flung areas.

A total of 88 participants attended the session, which covered a range of critical legal topics including, A.P. Court Structure and Functioning, Victim Compensation Scheme, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The programme featured distinguished legal professionals and officers as resource persons, Ito Basar, Chairman, DLSA, Tawang & District and Sessions Judge, Bomdila, Mary Jonnam, I/C Secretary, DLSA, Tawang & Chief Judicial Magistrate, Bomdila, Adv. Thupten Tashi, Public Prosecutor, Tawang, Adv. Lawang Noubu, Public Prosecutor, Bomdila, Adv. Kahmu Desisow, Special Public Prosecutor, NDPS, Adv. Dorjee Wangdi, Adv. Lobsang Tashi, Additional Legal Aid Defence Counsel (ALADC), Tawang.

The resource persons spoke on various legal provisions and procedures, with a special focus on the rights of victims, the legal framework surrounding narcotics, and the overall functioning of courts in Arunachal Pradesh. Participants were also encouraged to ask questions and seek legal clarifications, which led to a productive and interactive session.

This outreach initiative by DLSA, Tawang, underlines its commitment to spreading legal literacy and ensuring that even the most remote communities are not left behind in accessing justice and legal support.
