Agartala, August 05, 2025: Students of Tripura’s Dakshin Phulbari Higher Secondary School staged a road blockade on Tuesday in protest against the transfer of Malti Reang, the only teacher of the school’s Biology department. The agitation disrupted traffic on the Churaibari–Laxminagar main road for several hours.
The protest began around 11 am in front of the school located under Churaibari police station in Dharmanagar subdivision of North district. Students held placards and raised slogans demanding the immediate reversal of the transfer order.
“Malti Reang is the only teacher handling Biology here. If she is transferred, there will be no one left to teach us. This will ruin our academic year,” said a protesting student.
The school has approximately 684 students, runs two shifts morning classes for grades I to V and afternoon classes for grades VI to X. Currently, it has only seven teachers including the headmaster Ratan Kanti Jamatia.
Sources confirmed that Malti Reang has been transferred to Dewanpasha Sribhumi Vidya Bhavan, a school under the Jubarajnagar assembly constituency. The decision sparked widespread dissatisfaction among students.
Churaibari police arrived at the scene to bring the situation under control. After discussions involving the police, District Education Officer and headmaster Ratan Kanti Jamatia, a temporary resolution was reached.
“For now, Malti Reang will remain at Dakshin Phulbari Higher Secondary School for one more month. She will not be relieved immediately,” confirmed the headmaster.
Following the assurance, the students withdrew the blockade and normalcy was restored. However, uncertainty remains as stakeholders await a permanent decision from the School Education department.
