Agartala, August 06, 2025: Tripura Higher Education minister Kishor Barman on Tuesday stated that the development of a country is determined by how educated its people are. To bring about a radical change in the nation, there is an utmost need to start by changing the education system.
The event titled “Celebrating Half a Decade of the National Education Policy: Its Fulfillment in Tripura Technical Colleges, Obstacles and Future Goals” was jointly organized by Tripura Institute of Technology, Technical Sector and Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh (ABRSM). Educators and lecturers from across Tripura’s technical colleges participated.
While inaugurating a discussion series at the Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT), Narsingarh here, Minister Barman said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched this policy to ensure that children from all walks of life have access to education. The earlier British-style education system, introduced by Lord Macaulay, excluded many. The NEP is our move toward an inclusive, India-centric system.”
He emphasized the importance of teaching in mother tongues and regional languages, stating, “The policy recognizes 22 constitutional languages and promotes digital learning through tools like MOOCs, e-classes, and SWAYAM.” He also added that Tripura is moving forward rapidly in implementing NEP, with every Gram Panchayat and Village Committee now connected to Wi-Fi.
“The central government has launched this policy with the goal of making education universal. No matter how many challenges arise, we are committed to moving forward,” the minister affirmed.
In the program, ABRSM President Tirtharam Reang, Dr. Shanat Kumar Pal (Dhalai District Polytechnic), and Apurba Kumar Saha (Women’s Polytechnic, Hapania) also spoke. A draft report was submitted to the minister by ABRSM General Secretary Debashis Roy Chowdhury. Following the session, Minister Barman met faculty members at the Electrical Engineering Seminar Hall to review institutional progress.
