The Election Commission of India (ECI) has appointed Shailesh Kumar Chourasia, IAS (Manipur cadre: 2007), as the new Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Manipur. The appointment was formalised through Notification No. 154/MR/2025-P.Admn., issued by the ECI Secretariat on August 6, 2025.

The appointment has been made under the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 13A of the Representation of the People Act, 1950. Chourasia assumes the post with immediate effect and will continue in office until further orders.

According to the notification, upon taking charge as CEO, Chourasia will relinquish all other roles or assignments under the Government of Manipur. It further states that during his tenure as CEO, he shall not be assigned any additional responsibilities, except that of Secretary to the Government in charge of the Election Department in the State Secretariat.
