Agartala, August 8, 2025: West Tripura district police arrested a smuggler with 90,000 Yaba tablets worth approximately ₹1.35 crore during a routine search on the Khayerpur–Amtali bypass near Nilgiri Dhaba.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Namit Pathak said the operation was part of ongoing vigilance by Amtali police station. “As part of our routine search on the bypass, we stopped a suspicious auto. Upon inspection, our team recovered two bags containing 90,000 Yaba tablets,” he stated.

The accused, identified as Subir Sutradhar, was taken into custody on the spot. Police have registered a case against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and launched a detailed investigation into the source and intended destination of the consignment.

SP Pathak revealed that the area has long been under the police radar due to intelligence inputs about drug trafficking. “We have received reports of illegal drug activities in this stretch for quite some time. Our teams have been keeping constant watch, and this arrest is the result of that surveillance,” he said.

Reiterating the department’s firm stance against narcotics, the SP warned traffickers of intensified crackdowns. “Such operations will continue in the coming days. We are committed to dismantling the drug network and ensuring the safety of our youth,” he affirmed.
