Agartala, August 08, 2025: A middle-aged couple from Madhupur identified as Kajal Sil and his wife approached Bishalgarh SDPO Dulal Chandra Datta on Friday pleading for protection of their lives and property from what they allege is a human trafficking gang operating near the Indo-Bangladesh border.
The couple claims their land located adjacent to the border and partly covered by a bamboo grove has been unlawfully occupied and used as a transit point for trafficking Rohingyas and illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
“We objected when traffickers began using our land. We warned them that such activities could lead to legal trouble for us. But since then, our lives have been in constant danger,” said Mrs. Sil.
According to her, the threats escalated recently. “A few days ago, several armed miscreants raided our house. Fearing for our lives, we fled to a rubber garden. The next day, they returned and looted valuables, including cash and gold ornaments, from my cupboard,” she recounted tearfully.
The couple alleges that despite lodging a complaint with Madhupur police, no action has been taken. “We have been living away from our home for days. This is why we came to meet the SDPO,” Mrs. Sil said.
Police sources confirmed that two individuals Mithan Sil and Litan Sil identified by the couple as the alleged masterminds of the racket, had been arrested in the past in connection with similar offences.
