Agartala, August 11, 2025: Acting on the directives of Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Bishramganj Police on Monday arrested six individuals in connection with the violent attack and vandalism of a passenger bus at Bishramganj Bazar under Sepahijala District on the night of August 5.
The accused identified as Manikumar Debbarma, Rudra Debbarma, Raju Debbarma, Bimal Debbarma, Amit Debbarma and Vidyasagar Debbarma were detained from areas near Bishramganj Bazar following a tip-off. Under tight security, they were produced before the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Court later in the day.
The arrests come in the wake of a disturbing incident that gripped the Bishramganj motor stand area with tension. According to police and eyewitness accounts, the violence unfolded after a bus from Agartala to Sonamura stopped at Bishramganj stand. Earlier during the journey, a female passenger alleged that she had been touched inappropriately but could not identify the perpetrator.
Soon after, a group suspected to be political party supporters allegedly intercepted the bus, smashing windows and assaulting several passengers, including a minor girl. The bus sustained heavy damage, and multiple passengers required medical attention at a local hospital.
Superintendent of Police Bijoy Debbarma rushed to the scene to restore order. The damaged vehicle was taken to Bishramganj Police Station as part of the investigation.
Locals have voiced fears that the attack may have been a pre-planned attempt to incite unrest in the area. Police say the investigation is ongoing to determine the motive and identify any further conspirators.
