Agartala, August 12, 2025: The Tripura Power Department has announced plans to establish 45 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the state, alongside a directive from Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath to complete all pending sub-station works before the upcoming Durga Puja.
Speaking after inaugurating the 33 KV Durga Chowmuhani Sub-Station under the North-East Power System Improvement Project on Monday, the minister said, “The railway electrification work in the state has been completed and will soon be handed over to the Railway Board.”
The newly inaugurated sub-station, built at a cost of ₹9.76 crore, will benefit nearly 10,945 consumers. Highlighting the government’s focus on renewable energy, Nath stated, “Gas is limited and one day it will run out. But solar and wind power will always be there. We are depending on solar power to generate more electricity and earn revenue. Since our government came to power, free ration, drinking water and other facilities have been provided. The slogan of the current government is ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.’”
Urging public cooperation to prevent overloads on the system, the minister warned that “using more electrical equipment without permission increases the load, which can damage transformers and cause outages.” He revealed that new technologies are being deployed in the sector, including drone-based detection of illegal hook lines and smart meters for real-time load management.
“So far, 96,000 consumers have voluntarily installed smart meters. Under the PM-Kusum project, out of 15,000 registered, 694 have installed solar units, generating more than 2 MW of electricity. We aim to generate another 15 MW in Gomti district, revive the Maharani micro-hydel project to produce 1 MW, and set up a 500 MW pump storage project in Dhalai,” Nath said.
The event was attended by MLA Manoj Kanti Deb, MLA Swapna Das Pal, Durga Chaumuhani Panchayat Samiti Chairman Bhanu Pratap Lodhi, TPTL General Manager (Transmission) Ranjan Debbarma, Power Grid Chief General Manager S.K. Pal, and other dignitaries.
