Agartala, August 13, 2025: Tripura’s Suryamaninagar in West district is set to witness a significant boost in its power infrastructure, with the state power department planning to establish a new 400 KV substation to further strengthen the electricity network. Alongside this, the government has decided to set up one Krishak Bandhu Kendra in every agricultural sub-division in a phased manner.
Power, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced these initiatives on Wednesday while inaugurating the 132 KV double circuit transmission line from Dharmanagar to Kailashahar (Gournagar) and increasing the capacity of the existing 132 KV substation. He also opened a Krishak Bandhu Kendra in Chandail under Chandipur RD Block under Unakoti district.
“We have increased the capacity of the substation keeping in mind the demand for the next 10 years. With the new double circuit line, local residents will no longer face power supply issues,” Nath said. He added that the ₹59.82 crore project was funded with the support of the central government and the World Bank, benefiting 46,351 customers.
Emphasizing the importance of electricity, Nath remarked, “Even if the power goes out for just 10 minutes, many problems arise. Unfortunately, only 36% of Kailashahar’s consumers pay their bills. Honest customers also suffer due to theft and hooklines. Everyone must come forward to stop this.”
The minister highlighted that the state is also focusing on solar power generation and will introduce Emergency Restoration System (ERS) technology to protect tower lines.
On agriculture, Nath said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi dreams of making India a granary of the world through modern farming systems.” Tripura currently has 47 agricultural sub-divisions, with 33 Krishak Bandhu Kendras already operational. Ten more will be launched this fiscal year, aiming for 43 centres by 2025–26.
Today’s newly inaugurated centre under Gournagar Agriculture Sub-Division was built at a cost of ₹82.28 lakh under the RIDF project. The event also saw distribution of farm machinery to 20 farmers, fruit saplings to 30 farmers, and 100 seed mini-kits.
Social Welfare & Social Education minister Tinku Roy, Unakoti Zilla Parishad Sabhadipati Amalendu Das, TSECL MD Biswajit Basu and other senior officials attended the programme.
