Agartala, August 14, 2025: A three-day skill development workshop aimed at empowering rural women was inaugurated on Wednesday afternoon at the conference hall of the Divyodaya Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Khowai. The initiative was organized by Divyodaya KVK with support from the Department of Science and Technology, seeks to train women from various villages in sustainable and health-conscious practices.
The program was formally inaugurated by Science and Technology minister Animesh Debbarma in presence of Khowai Zilla Parishad Sabhadipati Aparna Singh Roy, District Magistrate Rajat Panth, senior scientist Manoj S. Sachan of Divyodaya KVK, MGIRI scientist Joykishore Changani and Chairman of TTAADC’s Khowai zone Bishu Debbarma among others.
Speaking to media personnel here, Minister Debbarma emphasized the importance of promoting organic alternatives to chemical-based household products. “Most hand washes and phenyls used in homes contain harmful chemicals that pose serious health risks, including cancer. Through this workshop, we aim to raise awareness and train rural women to produce natural hand wash and phenyl using cow dung and urine,” he said.
The training sessions will guide participants in creating these organic products, which are not only safer for health but also offer a potential source of income. Organizers hope that by equipping women with these skills, they can produce and market the items locally, contributing to both public health and economic self-reliance.
The initiative aligns with the government’s broader goal of reducing dependency on chemical products and encouraging the use of organic alternatives. “This is not just about training—it’s about transforming lives. If rural women can produce and sell these items, they can become financially independent while promoting healthier living,” Debbarma added.
