The Meghalaya High Court on Wednesday flagged concerns over the slow progress in expanding the Shillong airport runway, despite repeated court directives to expedite the project.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh observed that while officials acknowledge the need to extend the runway to accommodate larger aircraft, work is advancing at a “usual government pace” rather than with the urgency required.
The court noted that Rs 72.17 crore has been released to the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) for acquiring 11.75 acres of private land, but no sale or transfer agreements have been finalised, with officials still engaged in preliminary demarcation activities.
