Guwahati, August 19: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Monday launched a scathing attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of behaving like a “king” and treating ordinary citizens as “second-class” members of society.

Gogoi compared Sarma’s style of governance with that of his father, the late Tarun Gogoi, who served as Assam’s chief minister for 15 years without ever projecting himself as all-powerful. “Late Tarun Gogoi always worked for the people; he never thought of himself as all-powerful,” the Jorhat MP said, adding that their party’s ideal remains simple public service over prestige.

He stressed that Congress’s vision is to stand alongside the people, even if it means enduring the status of “second-class citizens,” rather than adopting an “upper-class” aloofness he attributes to the current government. “If this is what he wants, let it be. We will be with the people,” Gogoi declared.
