Agartala, August 22, 2025: A late-night police operation in Kailashahar, Unakoti district led to the seizure of over ₹20 lakh in unaccounted cash, sparking widespread sensation across the subdivision.
Around 11 PM on Thursday, police officials conducted a targeted search at the Chinibagan naka point, acting on confidential intelligence. During the operation, a black Maruti Suzuki S-Presso bearing registration number TR-05-E-0654, en route from Kailashahar to Dharmanagar was intercepted by police and TSR personnel.
Upon inspection, officers found bundles of cash concealed in bags and various compartments within the vehicle. The total amount recovered was ₹20,63,100.
Two individuals were detained on the spot. The accused have been identified as Saurabh Sinha (22), son of Sukhmani Sinha, and Arpan Nandi (32), son of Ganesh Nandi, both residents of Damcherra.
While the intended destination of the cash remains unclear, authorities are actively investigating the matter. Officer-in-Charge of Kailashahar Police Station, Tapas Malakar, stated, “Based on a tip-off, we intercepted the vehicle and recovered ₹20,63,100 in cash. The suspects are being interrogated and appropriate legal action is underway.”
The seized money was counted using an electronic machine in the presence of DCM Rajib Dutta. Both the cash and the accused are currently in police custody at Kailashahar Police Station.
Senior officials, including Additional Superintendent of Police D. Darlong and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Jayanta Karmakar, were present at the scene. The dramatic recovery has stirred considerable public interest and concern throughout the Kailashahar subdivision.
