Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Monday laid the foundation stone for the PM Ekta Mall (Unity Mall) at Chawnpui, Aizawl. The project, sanctioned under SASCI 2023–24 with a cost of ₹127 crore, will be constructed at the designated site in Chawnpui.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar, Commerce & Industries Minister F. Rodingliana, and Adviser to the Chief Minister & local MLA TBC Lalvenchhunga. Following the foundation stone laying, a public programme was held at Chawnpui Sports Centre, chaired by K. Lalrinzuali, Secretary, Tourism.

In his address, the Chief Minister stated that the PM Ekta Mall is a centrally sponsored initiative under SASCI Part 6 (2023–24), envisioned as a hub for showcasing India’s diverse handicrafts, One District One Product (ODOP), Geographical Indication (GI) products, and other locally made items. “This Mall will serve as a major marketplace for our indigenous products, connecting us directly to international buyers. Mizoram, like other states, will have its own stalls at Ekta Malls across the country, truly reflecting the spirit of India in One Mall. It is a natural extension of the Make in India vision,” he said.

The Aizawl Unity Mall will house 47 stalls – including 36 stalls for States and Union Territories and 11 stalls for Mizoram’s districts. It will also feature a Food Court, Restaurants, Children’s Play Area, Gaming Arcade, Meeting Hall, Movie Theatre, Retail Kiosks, and other facilities.

The project is being executed by HLL Infra Tech Services (HITES), a leading PSU under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, with the India Infrastructure Finance Company Ltd. (IIFCL) under the Ministry of Finance as the Project Management Unit. The Chief Minister appreciated HITES for their expertise, noting that they are also currently constructing the RIPANS building in Aizawl. He added that in a recent meeting with HITES officials in New Delhi, he had impressed upon them the Government’s commitment towards quality construction, timely completion, and avoidance of revised estimates.

Expressing gratitude, the Chief Minister thanked the Chawnpui locality leaders, local MLA TBC Lalvenchhunga, the Printing & Stationery Department (the land-owning agency), and all stakeholders for their cooperation. He particularly acknowledged Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar, who initiated the proposal during his tenure, and F. Rodingliana, who facilitated land transfer from the Printing & Stationery Department.

Local residents warmly welcomed the project, while HITES and IIFCL officials also held an interaction session. R. Lalrodingi, Director of Tourism, delivered the vote of thanks, marking the conclusion of the event.
