Tripura Government Pushes Healthcare Reforms: Free Tests, Lab Upgrades, Volunteer Support at AGMC–GBP Hospital

Agartala, August 27, 2025: The state government has reiterated its commitment to improving health services at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and Govinda Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital, the premier healthcare institution of Tripura. In line with this, several important decisions were taken in the governing body meeting of the Patient Welfare Association (Rogi Kalyan Samiti) held on Monday at the Council Hall of AGMC in Agartala city.

The meeting was presided over by MLA Mina Rani Sarkar, Chairperson of the Patient Welfare Association. Among those present were Dr. Ashok Sinha, Vice-Chairman; members and corporators Tushar Kanti Bhattacharya and Hiralal Debnath; Health Secretary Kiran Gitte; Director of Health Services Dr. Tapan Majumder; GBP Medical Superintendent Dr. Shankar Chakraborty; and AGMC Principal Dr. Anup Kumar Saha.

Key decisions included the opening of a new counter to provide free diagnostic tests for patients admitted under Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana, Priority Groups, Antyodaya, and BPL categories through outsourcing. The governing body also approved plans to upgrade the Central Laboratory of AGMC by introducing advanced testing facilities.

It was further resolved to purchase essential medicines for trauma care, emergency, and pediatric departments on an urgent basis using untied funds from the National Health Mission. To strengthen patient feedback, suggestion and complaint boxes will be installed across the hospital premises.

In addition, 10 civil service volunteers will be engaged at the “May I Help You” Desk to assist patients and their relatives in availing hospital services more smoothly.

According to a press release issued by the Health Department, the decisions aim to enhance patient-centric services and ensure better healthcare delivery in the state’s largest hospital.
