Agartala, August 28, 2025: Tripura has achieved significant progress in empowering rural women through the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ initiative, with 95 percent of the target already met, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced on Thursday.

Speaking at the inaugural session of a National Workshop on Integrated Farming Clusters (IFC) for the North Eastern States, the Chief Minister said that out of the 1.14 lakh targeted beneficiaries, 1,08,281 women have already become ‘Lakhpati Didis’.

Dr. Saha further informed that Tripura has launched 80 Integrated Farming Clusters with an investment of ₹32 crore to strengthen women-led rural livelihoods. The programme, conceptualized under the DAY-NRLM, aims to diversify income sources and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for small and marginal farmers.

Under each IFC, 250–300 farmers will be linked with Livelihood Service Centres, which will provide seeds, natural fertilizers, equipment, and marketing support to ensure better price realization. Dedicated resource persons such as Krishi Sakhis, Pashu Sakhis, and Matsya Sakhis will extend handholding support for agriculture, livestock, and fisheries activities.

Highlighting the scale of women’s participation, the Chief Minister said Tripura has 4.85 lakh women across 54,113 Self-Help Groups (SHGs), organized into 2,470 Village Organisations and 173 Cluster-Level Federations. To support them, the government has facilitated ₹1,677 crore in bank loans and ₹787 crore through Revolving and Community Investment Funds.

Dr. Saha said these initiatives have enabled rural women to take up diverse livelihood activities including piggery, goatery, poultry, fisheries, micro-enterprises, and catering services. He credited the success to the determination of SHG members, state support, and community solidarity.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of the North East as “Ashtalakshmi”, Dr. Saha asserted that Tripura is prioritizing infrastructure, connectivity, and livelihood generation to unlock its full potential.
