A statue of legendary Naga freedom fighter Haipou Jadonang was installed today at Nungba headquarters in Noney district to mark his 94th martyrdom day.
The installation was led by Dinganglung Gangmei alias Dipu Gangmei, IAS (retd), Honourable MLA of Nungba AC and Chairman of the Hill Areas Committee (HAC), Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Speaking as the chief guest, MLA Dinganglung Gangmei stressed the importance of remembering history for the progress of society. “We should be proud of leaders like Jadonang and Rani Gaidinliu. Though the British divided our Zeliangrong tribe across Assam, Nagaland and Manipur, our culture and traditions keep us united,” he said.
On the occasion, he extended his greetings to all Zeliangrong communities observing Jadonang’s martyrdom across the country. The commemoration featured patriotic and cultural performances, including songs by Zeliangrong artists, Hoi-Hoing by Lungba Pei (customary court), and a Jadonang Parade by Puiluang Students’ Union. A book aimed at promoting communication among the Zeme, Liangmei, Rongmei and Inpui language groups was also released.
Civil society bodies such as RNPO, RNSOM, KAMA, along with church leaders, youth groups and local ward chairmen, attended the function.

Simultaneously, members of the Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland) and communities from Imphal Valley, Tamenglong and Noney also paid homage through floral tributes and traditional rituals at Jadonang’s birthplace in Puiluang village and at Zadonang Park in Imphal and Tamenglong district.
