Angshuman Dey, Joint Secretary (NEC) of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), today visited oil palm plantation sites in Lungsen area of Lunglei District to review the challenges faced by farmers and assess their requirements.

He was accompanied by Ramdinliani, Secretary, Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Department; B. Ramnunsanga, Joint Director; David Fangzauva, Deputy Director (Oil Palm); and K. Lalrinfela, Assistant DAO, Lunglei. Lungsen BDO Lalhruailiana Zote, along with officials from the Horticulture Department and field functionaries, also joined the visit.

During the inspection, the Joint Secretary interacted with oil palm growers, listened to their concerns and discussed with department officials measures to improve cultivation and productivity. Addressing one of the key challenges—the need for better link road connectivity to transport harvested produce—he suggested that suitable projects be initiated to resolve the issue.

Angshuman Dey noted that Lunglei District has good potential for oil palm cultivation and encouraged farmers to actively pursue plantation activities. He urged close coordination between farmers and the concerned departments to ensure timely support, while assuring that the difficulties and requirements expressed by farmers would be duly considered.
