The Mizoram government has initiated a four-month special campaign to tackle the illegal trade of drugs in the state, starting Monday and continuing until December 31.
A senior police official said the operation will involve the police, other law enforcement agencies, and the Young Mizo Association (YMA), focusing on drug-affected villages, localities, and border areas across all 11 districts of Mizoram.
Methamphetamine tablets and other contraband, including exotic animals, are frequently trafficked through six districts — Champhai, Siaha, Lawngtlai, Hnahthial, Saitual, and Serchhip — which share a combined 510 km unfenced border with Myanmar.
These drugs are then transported from Mizoram to other parts of India and abroad, including Bangladesh, via Assam and Tripura.
