The 2,880 MW Dibang Multipurpose Project (DMP) is expected to bring significant economic, employment, and tourism benefits to Arunachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Pema Khandu has said.

During an inspection of the project site at Munli with NHPC Chairman and Managing Director Sanjay Kumar Singh, Khandu stated that the state would receive nearly ₹700 crore annually in free power from DMP, India’s largest ongoing hydropower project. He highlighted that beyond electricity generation, the project will provide jobs for local youth, funds for regional development, and new opportunities in tourism and business.

Khandu expressed confidence that the project would be completed by 2032, noting that interactions with engineers and workers reflected a shared commitment to the state’s growth. He added that completing several hydropower projects totaling around 18,000 MW could generate ₹10,000 crore annually, supporting community development and welfare programs.

Officials also pointed out the project’s role in moderating floods in downstream areas like Assam. Key environmental and land clearances have been obtained, and essential infrastructure, including roads and bridges, is already under construction.
