Guwahati, Sept 2: Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has suspended five staff members, including two senior doctors, following the death of a four-day-old infant in the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
The infant, found on August 18 entangled in the wires of medical equipment, later succumbed, raising concerns over hospital safety and monitoring protocols.
GMCH Superintendent Devajit Choudhury said the suspensions were based on the recommendations of an inquiry committee formed to investigate the incident. Authorities assured that accountability will be enforced and preventive measures strengthened to avoid such tragedies in the future.
