Agartala, September 4, 2025: Agartala is playing host to the Yonex Sunrise North East Zone Inter-State and Zonal Badminton Championship, a four-day sporting event that began on Thursday at the NSRCC Indoor Hall. The championship, organized by the Tripura Badminton Association, has brought together over 200 players and officials from all eight North Eastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Sikkim, and Tripura.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the tournament, describing it as a vibrant platform showcasing the unity, talent, and spirit of the region. He underlined the importance of sports in building both physical and mental well-being, adding that the state is committed to strengthening sports infrastructure in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision.

Highlighting recent achievements, the Chief Minister informed that eight synthetic turf football fields, two athletic tracks, a hockey turf, and a swimming pool have already been developed in Tripura, while several new projects are underway. He also pointed to the State Budget announcements, which include multipurpose indoor halls at Kailashahar and Udaipur, synthetic football turfs at Gandatuisa and Kakraban, a 200-bed sports hostel at Badharghat, and a large-scale sports complex with an international-standard swimming pool and multipurpose hall at Bholagiri in Agartala.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Secretary of Youth Affairs and Sports P.K. Chakraborty, Director L. Darlong, Padma Shri awardee gymnast Dipa Karmakar, Tripura Badminton Association working president Ratan Saha, and other dignitaries.

The championship will conclude on September 7.
