The Assam Congress on Thursday criticised the Gauhati High Court’s decision to grant bail to Gaurav Agarwal, accused in a multi-crore Goods and Services Tax (GST) evasion case, alleging it raises concerns over the state’s justice system under the BJP-led government.
The party also questioned the role of state advocate general Devajit Saikia in representing the accused and demanded a CBI investigation into the bail order, the advocate general’s involvement, and alleged political links shielding the syndicate.
Justice Mridul Kumar Kalita of the Gauhati High Court had granted bail to Agarwal, who faces allegations of GST evasion connected to illegal coke plants and transport operations.
