Agartala, September 8, 2025: The Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) has directed the Director General of Police (DGP), Tripura, to submit a detailed report on allegations of police inaction in connection with a fatal road accident case in Udaipur, Gomati district.

The case relates to the death of 28-year-old Suman Paul of East Dhwajanagar, who succumbed on January 7, 2025, following complications from a motor accident that occurred near Gokulpur Shastriji Sangha on October 17, 2024. According to a complaint filed by his brother, Pintu Paul, Suman sustained serious injuries when his motorcycle bearing registration number TR03M-6307 collided with an auto-rickshaw bearing registration number TR03C-2523.

Though initially treated at Gomati District Hospital at Udaipur and later by private doctors, his health deteriorated in December due to a blood clot in the head. Despite undergoing surgery at ILS Hospital, Agartala and further treatment at GBP & AGMC Hospital, he passed away in January.

The complainant alleged that despite repeated requests, RK Pur Police Station refused to register an FIR under Section 154 CrPC against the auto driver for rash and negligent driving. Even a representation submitted to the Superintendent of Police, Gomati on September 2, 2025 failed to yield action.

Taking cognizance of the complaint, THRC Chairperson Justice Arindam Lodh observed that the allegations pointed to “inaction on the part of the police authorities.” The Commission has sought a comprehensive report from the DGP within three weeks and fixed October 13, 2025, for further hearing in the matter.
