Agartala, September 10, 2025: Tipra Motha Party (TMP) supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarman today asserted that he was not afraid of central agencies and would willingly face jail if necessary.

Addressing a rally at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Tuesday organized to demand constitutional rights and implementation of the Tiprasa Accord, Debbarman declared, “My silence doesn’t mean I am frightened. If you want to unleash the ED or CBI against me, I am happy to go to jail.”

Expressing displeasure over the delay in implementing the accord signed before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, he said, “For the last 18 months we have been waiting for a positive step from the Government of India. During the ADC movement, even when Ashok Bhattacharjee opposed it, Indira Gandhi intervened and established ADC in Tripura. Today the Union government faces the same dilemma. It is time for the Home Minister to take a decisive stand like Indira Gandhi once did.”

The rally marked the conclusion of activist David Murasingh’s 2,500 km foot march from Tripura to Delhi. Debbarman lauded the public support extended to Murasingh during his journey, adding, “When I contested elections in 2023, people funded my campaign. That is why my MLAs and ministers will always remain loyal to the people. I can never shift my loyalties.”

Taking aim at the CPI(M), Debbarman alleged that his family was repeatedly neglected during Left rule. “My father died, my properties were seized when the Left was in power. Now some people raise slogans questioning my roots in Tripura. They must remember a tenant can never become an owner in the long run,” he remarked, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.

Debbarman also announced plans to launch a grassroots campaign from next month. “I will visit every village with folded hands to appeal for unity. If required, I will even touch the feet of Jitendra Chaudhury to bring him into the fold of Thansa (unity). No party flags will be carried in this campaign — only the national flag,” he declared.

He further alleged that some political forces were attempting to portray him and activist Murasingh as “monsters” for petty vote bank politics.

The rally was attended by NPP leader James Sangma, leaders from several North Eastern parties, as well as Tipra Motha’s MLAs and MDCs.
