Agartala, September 11, 2025: A wave of shock and grief swept through the Tripura’s Panisagar subdivision early this morning after the body lying on a pool of blood of a brick kiln worker was found at the DNB Brick Kiln near the Jalabasa Manipuri settlement.
Initial reports informed that five laborers including one woman had arrived from Ranchi, Jharkhand, on 10 September to begin work at the kiln. That evening, after purchasing groceries from the local market, the group cooked and ate together before retiring to their respective rooms around 9 PM.
The next morning, one of the workers attempted to wake his colleagues for work but received no response from one room. Upon forcing the door open, he found 30-year-old Porna Orang, son of Mangu Orang lying dead on the bed with visible head injuries. The worker immediately alerted kiln manager Arup Mallick, who then informed Panisagar police.
Panisagar Police accompanied by newly appointed Sub-Divisional Police Officer IPS Rahul Balhara, arrived at the scene and launched an investigation. Kiln owner Nabajyoti Nath confirmed that Porna had arrived with fellow Ranchi resident Jitu Orang (60) to work at the site.
Locals and police interrogation revealed that around 10 PM on the night of the incident, Porna and Jitu had engaged in a heated argument while intoxicated. In a fit of rage, Jitu allegedly struck Porna on the head with a thick wooden branch while he was lying down, killing him instantly.
Fearing for his life, Jitu fled the kiln under cover of darkness and reached Dharma Tilla around 3 AM. However, due to recent incidents of cattle theft in the area, vigilant villagers mistook him for a thief and assaulted him. During the confrontation, Jitu confessed to having murdered a fellow worker and was subsequently handed over to Panisagar police.
Jitu was taken to Panisagar Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment and later admitted to committing the crime during police questioning. The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem examination.
North District Superintendent of Police IPS Avinash Rai visited the crime scene, and Panisagar police have registered a murder case against Jitu Orang. The incident has cast a pall of sorrow and unease across the Panisagar subdivision, highlighting the tragic consequences of violence among migrant laborers.
