Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Keisham Meghachandra on Friday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to the state as a “mere symbolic visit” lacking any concrete roadmap for peace, rehabilitation, and justice.

Meghachandra said people across Manipur, especially internally displaced persons who have been living in relief camps for months, had expected a meaningful initiative from the Prime Minister. Instead, he termed the visit “a show-off and hollow,” stressing that it would have carried significance only if it was aimed at ensuring peace and justice through dialogue with all stakeholders.

Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party of failing to address the prolonged crisis, the MPCC president pointed to growing public discontent. He referred to reports from Churachandpur, where locals allegedly destroyed banners and cutouts related to Modi’s visit as an expression of anger and frustration.

Meghachandra further maintained that there has been “no genuine attempt to restore peace or ensure free movement” in the state, reiterating that the Prime Minister’s visit bears little connection to delivering justice or healing the wounds of Manipur’s ongoing conflict.
