Agartala, September 19, 2025: A shooting incident at Maguruli village on the India-Bangladesh border in Kailashahar on Friday morning has triggered tension in the region. A 28-year-old youth Nurul Islam is a resident of Maguruli Ward No. 3 under Unakoti district sustained a serious bullet injury in the neck allegedly from Border Security Force (BSF) firing.

According to his family members, BSF personnel allegedly entered their house around 7 a.m. and opened fire without any provocation. “The bullet struck Nurul in the neck, and we immediately rushed him to Unakoti District Hospital,” the family claimed. Doctors on duty, including Dr. Mayuri Pal and ENT specialist Dr. Arup Chakraborty, attended to him before referring him to GB Hospital, Agartala, for advanced treatment.

Dr. Chakraborty confirmed, “Nurul Islam was brought with a bullet wound on the neck. After initial treatment, he was referred to Agartala for further management.” However, the family alleged that a delay in the arrival of a government ambulance worsened his condition.

Meanwhile, a BSF source presented a contrasting account, claiming that Nurul Islam, also known as Raju, was engaged in smuggling activities in the border area. “On Friday morning, he provoked a BSF jawan by recording videos and misbehaving despite repeated warnings. To bring the situation under control, BSF was compelled to fire,” the source stated.

The incident has caused widespread panic in the border locality, with villagers demanding a thorough investigation into the matter.
