Agartala, September 20, 2025: Tripura’s Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma has announced a 12-hour bandh in Tripura on October 13, demanding an immediate halt to infiltration in the state. He made the announcement while addressing a press conference at his residence on Saturday.
Debbarma said that the Union government had earlier directed state administrations to identify infiltrators and initiate operations to deport them. “Unfortunately, the Tripura government has not yet implemented this directive. As a result, infiltration continues unabated through border areas of the state,” he alleged.
He further pointed out that according to a notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs, refugees were exempted from carrying mandatory travel documents. Referring to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), he said, “As per the law, minority groups who entered India on or before December 31, 2014, due to religious persecution, are eligible for Indian citizenship. However, the new directive states that those who came even until the end of 2024 will not be treated as offenders, even without valid documents. This will only encourage infiltration instead of stopping it.”
Debbarma also cited recent cases where intruders were detained at Ambassa and Bilonia, while five Bangladeshi nationals were nabbed in Udaipur ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit. “When I raised this issue with the Chief Minister, he assured that the police and BSF remain alert. But the reality is that infiltration is taking place regularly under their watch,” he remarked.
In protest, the non-political organization led by Debbarma has called for a 12-hour state-wide bandh on October 13.
