Agartala, September 23, 2025: A wave of shock and speculation has gripped Tripura;s Teliamura Class XII School community following the recovery of a female night guard found hanging inside the hostel designated for Scheduled Caste students. The deceased identified as Deepti Rani Shukla Das (45) was reportedly found dead in her room early Tuesday morning.
Initial reports indicated that, Das had completed her duties Monday night and retired to her quarters as usual. The incident came to light when a hostel student stumbled upon the scene and alerted the superintendent Shipra Datta, who then informed local authorities.
Teliamura police station staff arrived promptly recovered the body and transferred it to the sub-divisional hospital for post-mortem examination. While preliminary indications point to suicide, the motive remains unclear fueling rumors and unease in the area.
Speaking to the media personnel here, Superintendent Datta revealed that Das had long expressed distress over her family’s financial instability. “She often spoke about the burden of household expenses. I fear this tragedy may be linked to financial pressure,” Datta said.
It has also emerged that Das’ husband died by suicide several years back after consuming poison, adding further weight to concerns about her mental health and personal circumstances.
Local residents and school staff are now calling for a thorough investigation to determine whether any underlying factors contributed to the incident.
Authorities have yet to confirm if foul play is suspected, but the case has sparked demands for greater support systems for hostel staff facing personal hardship.
