Agartala, October 06, 2025: A tragic accident on Monday morning claimed the life of Subal Das, a 48-year-old daily wage labourer, who was fatally struck by a train near Tripura’s Sekerkote Railway Station while crossing the tracks around 10 a.m. The incident took place on the day of Lakshmi Puja, casting a pall of grief over the local community.
Locals informed that Das was on his way to work, as he did every morning, when he attempted to cross the railway line. At that moment, a railway engine approaching from the Agartala direction hit him, severing both his legs. Family members discovered his lifeless body beside the tracks shortly after the accident and raised an alarm, prompting local residents to rush to the scene.

A passenger DEMU train arriving from Sabroom halted at the site and remained stationary for over an hour due to the commotion. Local residents promptly informed Amtali Police Station and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Agartala Railway Station. Both agencies responded swiftly and arrived at the scene to begin preliminary investigations.
Das, a resident of the area, lived in a modest home adjacent to the railway line. Family sources revealed that his household was struggling financially. In a heartbreaking twist, Das’s mother had passed away just 25 days prior, and now the family is mourning the loss of her son. He is survived by his wife and a young son.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue at Hapania Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. Amtali police have registered a case of unnatural death and initiated an investigation.
