Sandipan Garg, an Assam Police Service (APS) officer, has been suspended following his arrest in connection with the investigation into the death of popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg. The state Home (A) Department issued the suspension order on Wednesday.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) detained Garg at 10:56 AM, citing sufficient evidence in CID PS Case No. 18/2025. The case is registered under Sections 61(2), 105, 106(1), and 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

A Guwahati court granted seven days of police custody for Garg, after which he will be remanded to judicial custody until October 15. The government invoked Rule 6(1)(c) of the Assam Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1964, to place him under suspension with immediate effect. If released during this period, his headquarters will be the Assam Police Headquarters in Ulubari, Guwahati.

SIT Chief and Special DGP of CID, Prasad Gupta, confirmed the arrest and custody orders. Alongside Garg, five others have been taken into custody in connection with the case, including event organiser Shyamku Mahanta, Garg’s manager Siddhant Sharma, bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, and co-singer Amritprava Mahanta.
