Agartala, October 10, 2025: The newly appointed in-charge of the Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress, Hargun Singh on Friday presided over an important organizational meeting and press conference at the Congress Bhavan in Agartala, marking his first visit to the state after assuming charge.

Addressing the gathering of Youth Congress office bearers and workers, Singh expressed heartfelt gratitude for the warm reception he received. “I’m thankful for the affection shown by our young party workers. Their dedication and energy reflect their deep commitment to the Congress,” he said.

Singh announced that he would undertake a four-day tour across Tripura to interact with local communities, particularly the youth, and to assess the prevailing challenges they face under the BJP-led government. He voiced strong concern over issues such as the rise in drug abuse, high unemployment, and the declining opportunities for young people.

“Tripura’s youth are battling drug addiction and joblessness while the government falsely claims to have created a drug-free and self-reliant state. The Youth Congress will continue to raise its voice against this misgovernance,” Singh asserted.

Echoing his remarks, Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress president Neel Kamal Saha lamented the erosion of the state’s sports culture, blaming the government for neglect and commercialization of sports infrastructure. “Earlier, sports were an integral part of youth life. Now, playgrounds lie deserted, while addiction grips our young generation,” Saha said.

He further criticized the government’s use of sports venues for non-sporting activities, citing the recent use of NSRCC as a venue for Durga Puja celebrations. “Such facilities should inspire young athletes, not serve as sites for entertainment events. Turning sports arenas into fairgrounds reflects misplaced priorities,” he remarked, taking a dig at the Chief Minister.

The Youth Congress leadership resolved to intensify its outreach programmes to connect with youth across districts, combat drug abuse, and revive sports culture in Tripura. “Our goal is to channelize the youth’s potential towards progress and development,” Singh concluded.
