Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Sikkim, Indra Hang Subba, met the Chairman and Managing Director of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) in New Delhi on Monday to discuss connectivity challenges on National Highway-10 (NH-10).

During the meeting, Subba highlighted the frequent disruptions and difficulties faced by commuters due to recurring damages and blockages along various stretches of the highway, which serves as a critical link between Sikkim and the rest of the country. He also enquired about proposals for a new or alternative alignment to ensure long-term and reliable connectivity, urging NHIDCL to expedite the preparation and approval of the Detailed Project Report (DPR).

The MP recommended identifying vulnerable locations along the current alignment and strengthening them to prevent landslides during the next monsoon. The NHIDCL Technical Director shared plans to construct viaducts and steel structures to bypass landslide-prone areas affected during the recent monsoon, targeting completion before the next season.

Subba also requested additional machinery and manpower to reinforce the existing road infrastructure and enhance resilience ahead of the upcoming monsoon. The CMD assured that necessary measures would be taken to address the issues and improve connectivity for Sikkim.
