Tripura Police Seizes 580 Kg of Cannabis at Mungiakami; Smugglers Used Press and Telecom Stickers to Evade Detection

Agartala, October 14, 2025: Tripura Police has seized approximately 580 kilograms of cannabis during two coordinated operations in the Champlaibari and Uttar Maharani areas under Mungiakami police station of Khowai district. The bust was carried out based on intelligence from confidential sources, revealing a sophisticated smuggling tactic involving vehicles disguised with press and telecom company stickers.

The operations were led by the Officer-in-Charge of Mungiakami police station under the supervision of Teliamura Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rohan Kisan, IPS. Upon receiving actionable information, DCM Surjit Debbarma promptly reached the scene to oversee the proceedings.

Police intercepted two vehicles suspected of transporting contraband. Upon conducting legal searches, authorities recovered the massive haul of cannabis and arrested one individual at the scene. The seized narcotics and vehicles have since been brought to the police station for further investigation.

According to police sources, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The estimated market value of the confiscated cannabis is around Rs 1 crore, a sub-divisional police officer R Kisan confirmed.

Investigations are ongoing to determine whether additional individuals or networks are linked to the smuggling operation.
