The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the investigation into the death of Joshita Das, an assistant engineer with Assam’s Public Works Department (PWD), following allegations that she was pressured by senior officials to engage in corrupt practices.
Das, posted at the Bongaigaon sub-division, was found dead at her residence on July 22. Acting on a reference from the Assam government, the CBI re-registered the case initially filed at Bongaigaon police station.
Her family alleged that she faced continuous pressure and threats from senior officials and contractors, including architect Debajit Sharma, SDO Aminul Islam, and executive engineer Dinesh Medhi Sharma, in connection with a mini-stadium construction project. All three have been named as accused in the CBI FIR.
