Tripura: Police, GRP, Customs & STF Seize 90,000 Narcotics Worth Rs 2 Crore at Jirania Railway Station

Agartala, October 17, 2025: In a significant breakthrough in the state’s fight against drug trafficking, a joint operation by the Government Railway Police (GRP), West District Police, Customs Department, and Special Task Force (STF) led to the recovery of 90,000 bottles of banned Escuf Cough Syrup at Jirania Railway Station.

According to an official statement issued by the Tripura Police, the coordinated raid was conducted on two goods train wagons bearing numbers 31032457043 and 30030010892. Each seized bottle contained 100 ml of Escuf Cough Syrup, which includes Codeine Phosphate, a controlled substance under the NDPS Act.

The search operation began at around 4:30 PM on October 16 and continued into the early hours of October 17, resulting in the seizure of contraband worth approximately ₹2 crore.

A case has been registered at Agartala GRPS under Case No. 104/2025, dated October 17, 2025, under sections 21(c)and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Authorities have termed the seizure a major success in curbing the illegal transportation of narcotics through railway routes in Tripura.
