The Assam cabinet on Thursday approved the Assam Sattra Preservation and Development Commission Bill, 2025, marking a significant move to protect the state’s Vaishnavite heritage. The bill will establish a dedicated commission with quasi-judicial powers to safeguard Sattras and their land, ensuring the preservation of both cultural and economic interests.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the commission aims to combine traditional reverence for Sattras with modern governance mechanisms.

In a separate decision, the cabinet approved a three per cent increase in Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief, effective from July 1, raising the total DA for government employees and pensioners to 58 per cent.
